I’m a professional Maths and Sciences tutor specialising in tutoring for 11+ and GCSEs and I love my work! I get tremendous joy out of working with children and seeing them progress. I spent my primary years at Radlett Preparatory School, went on to study at Haberdasher’s Aske’s Boys’ School and obtained a Natural Sciences BSc (Hons) degree at the University of Bath. I was lucky enough to have a tutor, so I understand how beneficial additional support outside the school classroom can be. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing tennis and used to coach national UK junior players. It was a fantastic experience in terms of understanding how to motivate young children to achieve their best. For pleasure I also read, watch films and travel. A personal highlight was a two-month conservation research trip to Madagascar to study indigenous birds, reptiles and lemurs.

I’ve been a private tutor since 2010, supporting students from Key Stage 1 up to A-level. I specialise in teaching Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) up to GCSE level and Biology A-level. I also help students prepare for the UKCAT tests which are required for entry into UK medical and dental schools. And I’m delighted to say all the students I’ve tutored at higher levels have gone on to study their desired courses at university. After school I took a Masters degree in Immunology at Kings College London and am currently working on a PhD in Cancer Immunology at the Anthony Nolan Research Institute and University College London.

I specialise in teaching 11+ English Comprehension, Maths and preparing children for 11+ interviews – specifically for independent schools, having been through the process myself. I started my education at Radlett Preparatory School, went on to the prestigious North London Collegiate School then gained a degree in Maths & Management BSc (Hons) from the University of Nottingham. After graduating, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). In my working life I still use many of the techniques I gained during my studies, so I appreciate the importance of a great foundation in Maths. I also believe good communication skills are essential for young people, especially as they move on to apply for university and jobs. Practising these skills is a fantastic way to improve your child’s verbal fluency and build their overall confidence. I’m a firm believer ’Work hard, play hard’! Outside work, I enjoy running, theatre trips and heading off on my travels wherever I can.

I work alongside Punit to develop the high-quality tuition materials and teaching methodologies that underpin Tuition For Excellence. At school I gained 10 A* grades at GCSE and straight As at A-level, then went on to study Economics & Management at Oxford University, graduating with upper second class honours. Being state educated, I have a deep understanding of the challenges facing pupils from a range of backgrounds and appreciate the importance of high-quality tuition in ensuring that young people fulfil their potential. In my spare time I like running marathons, playing tennis, travelling and supporting the legendary Arsenal.

Which geographical areas do you cover?

Our professional tutors work with children from across North London, including Harrow, Hatch End, Pinner, Bushey, Stanmore and Watford. Tutoring sessions usually take place at our base in Harrow Weald. However we can travel to peoples houses on request.

Which hours do you work?

We aim to be as flexible as possible to fit in with your family timetable. Our usual teaching hours are from 4pm – 9.30pm on weekdays and 9.30am – 6.30pm on weekends. We can work during the daytime on request. Tutors are also available for email or telephone support outside regular tutoring hours.

How do you teach?

Our overall aim is to give each child the desire and ability to think and problem-solve independently. We recognise every child is different, so we don’t enforce a set teaching method. Instead we assess them individually, then tailor our approach to best suit how they learn and build on their natural ability. As top-level tutors, we use the highest quality study materials to help students obtain the best grades. We practice former exam questions, work on exam technique and use lots of interactive online tools and practical methods to make our teaching as effective and enjoyable as possible. It’s one of the reasons why clients rate our tutoring service highly.

How much does your private tuition cost?

Our group tuition rate is £25 per student per hour (4 students maximum per group). These places are in high demand so we recommend early enrolment. One-to-one tuition rates vary according to the age and level of the student. Please get in touch to discuss your needs in more detail – we’d be glad to advise.

How regularly should my child see a tutor?

It varies from child to child and depends on what they want to achieve. We can offer more frequent sessions in the run-up to exams or interviews, or a concentrated spell of sessions to help a child master a specific topic. We also hold revision sessions and camps during holidays.

Do your tutors have DBS clearance (formerly the CRB check) to work with children?

Yes, each of our tutors is a UK resident who has undergone a DBS check.

  • Punit tutored our son leading up to his GCSE/ IGCSEs. He quickly grasped our son’s requirements and gaps in his knowledge. He was professional, courteous, patient and thorough, with a vast knowledge of what was needed for each exam.

He provided all required materials or pointed him in the right direction for past papers and help sheets. I found Punit an affable individual with strong organisational and communication skills and a determined, conscientious, tenacious, engaging and proactive approach to getting through the syllabus.

Punit listened, understood all the areas our son needed to improve upon and tailored his technique accordingly. In a very short period of time he not only gained our son’s trust and respect but also gave him a framework and level of understanding that moved him from getting standard grade Cs to grade As and predictive grade A/A*s for his exams.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him to any prospective parent with a child preparing for their GCSEs. A huge thank you!

  • My son started GCSE biology and Chemistry with Punit only a short time ago and already we can see the difference. Clear and thorough explanations have given him confidence and his marks have improved. Thank you!

  • I found Punit a very pleasant, easy-going and prepared tutor, which helped me feel relaxed during the lessons. He also provided exercises and targets to keep me motivated. The techniques he used to get me up to scratch on answering longer questions were a real confidence booster! Thank you so much for our sessions together, I’ve really enjoyed them and feel so much more confident. I appreciate your time and effort in ensuring I was ready to face my exams with gusto! You have acted as a key to unlocking my true potential and for that I am truly grateful.

Why learn Maths & Sciences?

Learning Maths and Science gives you the tools to decode, analyse and interpret information for yourself. And for people who can do that, versatile think-on-their-feet people, a huge range of career options opens up. So we want to promote Science. We want to teach it in a way that children find truly interesting. That’s why we always relate what we cover in lessons to how Science contributes to the real world, in everything from manufacturing to hairdressing.
